My be liked the garlic knots I've had better I'm sorry I would've saved on the carbs and the extra bit of cash the wine in not sure if I got hooked up Obviously no complaints the pizza was huge I prefer crispy pizza but maybe that's my bad but it was a nice first time they weren't busy and the restaurant is huge perfect for big parties I give two thumbs up

I came to Umbertos one other time before this most recent visit - and that was after a Pembroke Pines Optimist game back in 1986 (no, seriously). Since then, they have done nothing to update, modernize or change. This pklace is a time xcapsuel - in the good, and bed, sense. Our waiter forgot about us entirely and it took forever to order our entrees. They made up for this by buying a round of drinks for the table - nice gesture. Other than the fact that i was HNAGRY by the time the food came, the food itself was standard fare. Not bad, but not anything i would go out of my way to come back to either. My brother lives close by so there is a chance that i might return, but its not a place id make it a point to return to.

This place was just okay. Our server was quite entertaining however. We ordered the fried mozzarella as an appetizer... Nothing great. We shared the lobster ravioli and baked ziti with chicken which was just ordinary. I don't really see anything great about this place. It just seems like a run down Italian joint that needs to be updated and probably new management. Once the place was closing everyone who worked there was drinking beer except our water who was still making sure we were good and keeping us entertained. Don't think I'll be back here.

It would have been no stars at all but they get a star because I have to click on it. The place looks stuck in a time warp and it's really dark, which I think is nice if you are on a romantic date. The lady that took us to our table was very nice and noticed my daughter and talked to her. As soon as we, dare I say not even before I put my bum on the seat, some guy who I thought was gonna be our waiter interrupted us with not even an "excuse me" and put 3 plates and silverware on the table. Kudos for the promptness but he could've waited like 2 minutes and it would've been better. We waited like 15 minutes for somebody to come to our table and take our drinks order. The place was not even full so there was no excuse for that. We never got to meet our waiter/waitress or order our drinks because it was like we were not noticed at all so we left. They should make sure that the wait staff are not mostly socializing and more into what their job actually entails. First and last time almost customer...

Umbertos is not your average pizza place, its located in a well small corner plaza but you cannot miss the big yellow sign outside. Tried the Grandmas Sicilian Slice pizza--I promise you won't regret it...traditional sicilian sliced pizza (square cut) with fresh basil tomato mozzarella --simple, tasty, and of course fresh. By the way the pie was huge...but trust me don't think theyre will be too many leftovers. Will order again Umberto's ! thumbs up.

I'm giving 4 stars because the service was great! The food was alright and you definitely get a lot of it, but I'd give the food 3 stars for taste alone. The personal pizza I got could easily serve more than one person and the garlic knots were good and filling as well. My friend got the large Stromboli which I think could have fed 3 people at least. Needless to say, we had a lot of food left over to take home. It was good, but there's a lot of competition for pizza places and I've had better pizza and stromboli. But it was still a nice place with great service and good food, so I recommend it if you live close by.

What looks like a hole in the wall in a grubby strip mall is actually a sweet find! Umberto's was a second choice as our regular place was closed for a private party. We will be visiting more often. All decorated for Christmas and playing Christmas music we relaxed in a nice booth. Out come amazing garlic knots! Get some!! Food was amazing! Hubs had veal Parm and I had chicken Parm. Probably the best I've ever had! No joke! The waiter was so fast we never saw him coming and going! We finished off with the absolute, bar none, best Creme brûlée on the planet!!! Not expensive, roomy and clean. You won't regret it. Sorry, I always forget to take pictures until after I've hoovered every morsel! LOL!

Their sicilian pizza is the bomb. Very good. Certainly worthwhile. No fountain drinks though. Only had salad and pizza; can't comment on the rest of the menu. Garlic knots are pretty good too though.

This place use to be nice. Unfortunately it's been stuck in time and is awful. We walked in tonight to be assaulted by an awful smell. It must be the 30 year old carpet. But we sat anyway because we remember the food was good the last time we were there. Unfortunately, we were wrong. I ordered meatballs and sautéed broccoli . The meatballs were so hard I couldn't cut them, and they tasted awful. I had to spit it out. My sautéed broccoli was actually frozen broccoli that was microwaved and tossed with chopped garlic. I sent it back because it was cold, and it was returned to me swimming in hot water. Don't bother to go here. It needs a makeover from Robert Irvine.

Went here for a birthday dinner. Arrived at 6:15 on a Friday night with a party of 5. Where to start..... The waitress was nice but in attentive, had to ask for refills on drinks and when the food arrived I needed some cheese and pepper seeeds but waitress was no where to be seen. No follow up if we needed anything. Food coming out was extremely slow. It took 20 minutes to get our salads. They did give us a big bowl of garlic rolls but they were not that good and who wants to fill up on bread. When our meals starting coming they did not come out together. First a personal pizza came out and then the rest of the meals came out 10 minutes later. 50 minutes from the time we sat down to when the main course hit the table. Very disappointing............ This was the second time I went here and the last.

I've been going here for over 15 years now and my parents have gone here for over 30 years. Reason: FOOD IS EXCELLENT! $10 for salad, fresh garlic knots, rigatoni with broccoli, a glass of wine, and dessert. Hello, good deal! This family owned restaurant is the real deal. If you need to host a large party they have another room in the back. Everyone is super nice and authentic. I only wish they had one in Orlando because I'd be there 3x's a week and that's limiting myself.

My husband and I frequently pass this restaurant on our way home. He kept asking me to try this place for two years. I don't know but their signage reminds me of Denny's. My philosophy is, if you have to dine-in and have plenty of time, I would rather pay for great experience and of course great food. So finally I said yes to my husband of coming in this place. Very cozy, friendly staff and the waitress was quick to get our orders. Food was forgettable. I don't even remember if it tasted good or bad. Maybe we should give it another try.

We kept driving by this place and noticed how busy it always seems. Well it is definitely overrated. Pizza was ok, so many places better close by. Tried the veal parmigiana, it was horrible and the garlic rolls were nearly cardboard. Would not go back on a bet.

Diamond in the rough! It's a true original italian mom and pop LITERALLY LOL! When you walk in it looks old and outdated. However the food was incredible and the service was great. For starters we ordered the meatballs - highly recommend with garlic knots We ordered from the early bird dinner special so our orders came with soup or salad. Next time I will go for salad, the soup was salty and too busy. Chicken parm was perfectly breaded, good size and so yummy. It had the right amount of red sauce. The shrimp scampi had way too much garlic for my taste but the taste was spectacular with a good amount of shrimps on the plate Overall, Bon appetite!

It was my first time at umbertos and I was highly impressed! I was served not only by a great server but also by the owner! I had a combo of the lasagna and chicken parm! The food was delicious and the service was impressive! It really is like having dinner in an Italian home! This place is a must go to!!!!

Great pizza and loved their homemade desserts! Highly recommend the Tiramisu! This place has been here for 40 years and still going strong. Their staff is very pleasant and attentive. They make you feel like youre at a traditional family dinner. Wish they could have fountain drinks instead of bottles for $2.25. Overall will keep on coming for being a great family owned italian restuarant!

This had been a great restaurant at one time. Went here for my daughter's birthday and it was truly a disappointment. Sauce was bland and wine even seemed watered down. Dishes were barely warm. The lemon salad and tiramisu were the only good items from the menu. What happened to this place after 30 years I have no idea! What a shame! Never again!

Now this is pizza done right! I've been coming here for well over 10 years now and they are always, always consistent. Their regular round pies are one of my favorite in all of Florida... Throw some sausage on their and fuhgettaboutit! Their Sicilians are to die for, whether you prefer a thinner one like their grandmas Sicilian or you prefer the traditional Sicilian, both are outrageously delicious! The typical apps like fried zucchini, mozzarella, rolls, fried calamari are all pretty good but the selection of apps is small. Haven't tried too much of the food as I always go for the pizza. It you appreciate a good pie and a classic Sicilian, this is your spot for sure!

This place is the epiphany of a Hidden GEM ! We drove by this place getting to know our new neighborhood.. We decided to go in and it was Authentic italian home style cooking. On our first visit we had a sit down meal and completely fell in live with the place, although it could use a facelift. We are now regulars for dine in and take out.

Extremely good and fresh! Prompt service. Delicious. We had garlic knots that actually look like knots. Calamari, fried and with a kick off its own. Chicken wings that were crispy and the sauce on the side. The personal pizza with 6 slices enough for two. And the ricotta cheese ravioli, prefect presentation, portion well served fresh basil and the tomato sauce, oh my goodness. The food was served hot and fast. They came out of the kitchen as they were ready. We found Umberto's on yelp just by searching for Calamari. We are super glad we came. They are open 7 Days at week... even in Sundays from 3 pm to 10 pm. The place was clean and no weird smells. The aroma of the pizza when entering very inviting. No loud music, just families having dinner and conversations. The staff always smiling. We will be coming back for sure.

Came in for the first time on a Thursday night around 8:00. I have passed by this place a million times but never wanted to go in based on appearances alone. A foodie coworker who used to live in the area swore by this place so when I had a hankering for chicken parm I figured I would check it out. Prices are not bad for what you get. $14 was the chicken parm, spaghetti, soup and garlic rolls. When we arrived the place was mostly empty. We placed the order to go and were told it would be 15 minutes. While waiting I couldn't help but notice the dated look of the restaurant. The ceiling had stains showing what appeared to be water damage. A lot of people came in for takeout pizza while we waited, I would assume they do most of their business on takeout and delivery since the dine in crowd was so sparse. The food was ready in about 30 minutes and was pretty good. The garlic rolls were not great. They were dry, not very moist or particular garlicky or buttery. I had also ordered a side of meatballs which were meh. But I would go back for the pasta dishes and would like to try the pizza for sure.

A feel bad giving this place this kind of review, but I have to be honest. I've been here twice this week, mostly because my mom wanted to go, and I have experienced better. The staff is pretty nice, but the food is just meh. The first issue is with the calamari. In my opinion, the calamari seems to be frozen. We didn't ask if it was, but I'd be shocked if they said it was fresh. There are several tell tale signs you have frozen calamari on your plate. 1) The coating is very light in color. Fresh calamari that has been fried tends to have a crispy browned coating. 2) The coating seems to be a firm barrier making a wall around the squid. The coating of fresh fried calamari is VERY crispy and tends to crumble and leave delicious coat crumbs on your plate. Frozen calamari doesn't have this type of coating. 3) I find that frozen calamari has only the rings and no tentacles. This is one of the most obvious red flags of frozen calamari. Places that serve fresh calamari serve both the rings AND the tentacles. No good Italian place takes the time to separate the rings from the tentacles unless you ask them to I suppose. 4) If you're still not sure, the taste and texture tells all. The texture of frozen calamari is firm, rubbery and chewy. The calamari at Umbertos met each of the frozen calamari requirements. Again I didn't ask if it was fresh or frozen so I can't say I'm 100% sure, but many small Italian places serve frozen calamari so it's not a huge deal, but it's still unfortunate. I mean this is Miami for crying out loud. You can buy fresh seafood anywhere so I don't understand why so many establishments insist on buying frozen stuff. Now to the entree. I had the chicken francese and the chicken was a bit bland. The sauce wasn't very seasoned either. The spaghetti is just okay. The tomato sauce is nothing special. Also I don't think the servers have sectioned seating because when we sat down, no one seemed to know who's table we were. Is their food bad? NO. Is their food all that good? NOT REALLY. Like I said before, It's just okay, not inedible though. My mom seems to think they're delicious. Overall, I can get better Italian for a cheaper price at other places.

I was going to give Umberto's 5 stars on their food alone but since I haven't dined in vs. delivery I gave it 4. My love for Umberto's is pretty simple, they have good Pizza and their garlic knots are to die for. If you are looking for greasy non- chain pizza, order from Umberto's.

Umberto's is a friendly neighborhood Italian restaurant. They are a family owned and run restaurant featuring some classic Italian dishes. The food is pretty good though I am no Italian expert. The pizza is also pretty good and especially yummy with toppings. I would recommend you try the garlic knots, they are greesyfully delish. The restaurant on the inside definitely could use a renovation, take-out is recommended!

Umberto's you surprised me and in a good way. I went there with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Umberto's is unpretentious and by the look of the place it's been around for awhile and is most likely family owned. I tend to prefer Mom and Pop places to the corporate giants that exist today because I feel they take more pride in making a product that is tasty and not generic to suit the typical American palate. I was with Jeff S. and his family and I must say I love it when Jeff S. visits from Cali. He's my eating partner in crime! We started out with the Escarole and White bean Soup. I wasn't sure about the soup but the waitress recommended it and she seemed fairly knowledgeable about their products. It was simply fantastic. It had a subtle butter flavor to it and I loved the combo of Escarole and beans. For My entree I had the Chicken Francese with thin spaghetti and garlic and oil. Jeff S. had a combo of Chicken Parm, Veal Parm, and Stuffed Eggplant Parm. His parents had the Veal Francese and Veal Siciliano. Everyone was beyond satisfied with the meal. I can't begin to explain how tender everything was. I'm really finicky when it comes to chicken because I love it to be very tender. They were completely spot on with the tenderness. I also loved that I didn't need to add any salt, pepper or parmesan cheese. Everything was seasoned just right. After my amazing entree I was sure I couldn't eat anymore but then they brought out The Home Made Ricotta Cheese Cake and the Chocolate Cake with Ricotta filling. They were both light, sweet and hit the spot. Umberto's isn't fancy but it makes up for it by serving excellent food and providing great service.

Didn't even have a chance to place a food order, our waitress was changed because of a large party. Right in the middle of ordering. We said no we want the same waitress, ok we got her back. And as we were ordering, the owner comes by clapping her hands saying "ok let's go hurry up and order let's go" I raised my voice told the wife we are out of here and told the owner that you don't talk to us like that and we left. Not a good experience. Undoubtedly the owner must have inherited this business from someone as she definitely has no pr skills, seems to be a control freak. A micro manager. The staff didn't seem pleased with her decisions either.

Umberto's...ummm what can I say really? We decided to order take out and we were really craving for a calzone because we had it some where else and since this place was the closest to us we got it from there. First of all, we waited at the take out counter for 5 minutes and all the staff did was walk by us. Finally I think the owner came and took our order and recommended the large calzone for 3 people. We waited for about 15/20 mins and it was ready and we left. When we got home to eat it...wow. Don't get me wrong the taste was good but I'd prefer more sauce and meat to all the cheese they put it there. It was like a whole block of cheese in there. And the marinara sauce was just regular sauce from a can maybe. Not cool. After about half way into my first piece I took all the cheese out and ate it plain. Not going there again. Sorry Ummmmberto's.

  • Sara K.

I feel bad for having the first review be bad but. oh well. (Also I am giving an apologetic two stars since it was Take Out and take out is never as good as dine in.) The marinara sauce was very bland. Straight tomato sauce. I think it even lacked Italian seasoning. So since most of the dishes we had contained marinara sauce (penne, chicken Parmesan, spaghetti). Second big problem there was a bug in the canolli. So unless you like grandma's sensitive taste bud bland sauce and protein rich canollis don't bother.

It's a sleeper, very good pizza. Real good Veal Parm, I base it on the veal P I used to have in Brooklyn. Spag is very good and I love the soups. Everything is simple family style, crummy tables, little ambiance but who cares? Good Grub!

You may have seen this review on other pages...my experience was THAT bad, I am posting this on as many review pages as possible. The bread, salad, sent back dinner, and re-cooked dinner were all terrible and tasteless. I am the least picky eater alive (I'll eat off the floor and be happy), but I couldn't take more than 3 bites of my food. Don't try complaining though because both the waitstaff AND owner are terribly rude and unsympathetic. This restaurant left my in an unsightly mood for the next hour! AWFUL!!!!

We have been scouring the area for a good pizza place since we moved in. Finally we decided to try Umberto's and we were disappointed we hadn't tried it sooner! Their pizza is on point every time we order it. Their Sicilian is hands down the best I've ever had. Calzones are amazing too! Prices are reasonable, food is great, delivery is on time....definitely worth a try if you haven't had it already.

My husband and I are from New York and Boston. It's hard for us to find pizza we like down here! We have recently moved to the Cooper City area, and had to find our new go-to pizza place. We have gotten takeout from Umberto's twice so far, and we love it. And, they are super friendly :) We haven't ventured beyond our 'half cheese, half mushroom' usual yet. We're pretty set in our ways, but might explore the menu more soon.

Nikolas was great. Very attentive. Excellent service! The food was phenomenal. We had the meatball parmigiana and the seafood feast in spicy red sauce. It was all simply delicious. Wish we had visited this place ten years ago when it was first recommended to us. We will definitely be back. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are generous.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
